How to Deal With Life's Setbacks

Life can be a little difficult, ok it can be a right B**** at times.  There is nothing we can do to stop bad things or things going little pear shaped every so often. Usually when we want something we have to work hard for it, and that is never plain sailing. What I have learnt is that successful outcome is dependent on how we react to failures and not the actually set backs we experience. I haven't always been good at dealing with set backs and I haven't quite mastered it yet but I have definitely come a long way. For this post I have put together some of the tips I have learnt to cope with these difficult situations.

1. You are not alone,
what usually happens when you are dealing with something difficult is that we  think that we are the only person going through this. In turn by doing we are isolating ourself because we feel alone in our problems. However this is not the case while we are dealing difficult setbacks, there are hundred more people dealing with similar situations all over the world. The only difference is the way in which we react to the problem. I think it's kinda comforting knowing that you are not alone and you are not only person that will experience some sort hardship in life. We are only humans,  we will make all make mistakes and life isn't perfect so there will always be hurdles we have jump through to get to where we want.

2. Step back,
when we experience hardship of whatever sort, we often become preoccupied with the problem itself that it can sort of take over our lives. We can be constantly thinking about the problem, why it has happened to us and how we are going to deal with it, this takes a lot of your time.  Which leads us to feel worried about how we are going to deal with the problem, and when you can't see a solution you become even more anxious about the problem because you feel trapped. So take a step back from it all, do something for yourself to try and make you forget. You might end up feeing guilty but don't because the problem won't we still be there and taking some time out can actually give some fresh perspective on everything.

3. Try to remember the good things in your life,
even though everything seems like it's going wrong, there is always something you can be grateful for in your life. Take a moment to think about the good things in your life, like your home, family and your friends etc. This is a lot easier said than done, when we are in these difficult situations we focus on the problem itself and we find it hard to see any of the good that is our life at this point. This will help you to put your problem into perspective and it

4. Stay motivated,
everyone experiences set backs but don't let that stop you from achieving your whatever it is you want in life. Remember why you are doing this, maybe you want to be a writer or start your own business and let that reason motivate you. If you are persistent and work hard you can achieve anything you want. I know it's hard to stay motivated when it seems like nothing is going your way but you can try different things to help you to keep going. I like to listen to TED talks, I find that they help me to feel motivated and inspired to pursue to achieve my goals. Check out some of my favourite TED talks here.

Let me know some of the things you do when things are going a little pear shaped.

Great post! I find it helpful to always remember that your not the only person that goes through difficult situations and its always best to open up about it to a good friend.
